Urban Hydration CEO and co-founder, Psyche Terry, was a featured speaker at the Black Maternal Health Fair hosted at Tennessee State University. The event, organized in partnership with Walmart, focused on addressing maternal health disparities faced by Black women across the country. State data shows that Black women in Tennessee are more than twice as likely to experience pregnancy-related fatalities compared to white women.
Psyche shared her personal journey, emphasizing the importance of maternal health. “I had to choose my life over my child’s life, and we chose my kiddo’s life without knowing if I would make it. Knowing that there are moms out there, there are women out there that did not make it, it pulls my heart to want to speak up and speak out and explain to more people that we have to be advocates of mental health, maternal health, as well as self-care,” she explained.
The Black Maternal Health Fair provided attendees with an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions, share experiences, and explore solutions to improve maternal health outcomes. Through her participation, Psyche reinforced Urban Hydration’s commitment to health and wellness initiatives for positive change in underserved communities.
