MTV Movie and TV Awards Was One For The Books

MTV Movie and TV Awards Was One For The Books

The MTV Movie and TV Awards hit waves this past week. While most award shows are viral due to petty comments, drama, or even technical difficulties. It was this year's social justice movement during the awards that really caught people's attention. Celebrities all over the show used their platform to speak out about the things they truly believed in.

Tiffany Haddish, a well known comedian and rising star, became the first black woman to host the award show. A show that has been running for 27 YEARS. Chris Pratt took home the generation award emphasized the power of God's love and proudly stated his faith along with humorous advice. Love Simon, a breakthrough gay teen romantic comedy, won Best Kiss. Nick Robinson, who was the leading star of the film, proclaimed that anybody should feel free to kiss whoever they want—regardless of gender. Millie Bobby Brown, who is widely known as Eleven on Netflix' hit show Stranger Things,  adamantly spoke out against bullying. Brown recently deleted her Twitter account due to withstanding multiple counts of bullying. Each celebrity made an impact in their own way, but perhaps the biggest impact was Chadwick Boseman. Boseman won Best Hero for his role as T'Challa in Marvel's Black Panther. While on stage accepting his award, Chadwick called for James Shaw Jr. to join him. Shaw took down a gunman at the Tennessee Waffle House in April, which saved the lives of many. Chadwick took this time to fully acknowledge him and give Shaw the credit for his heroic work.

The award show ignited a spark in many for social justice and to make a change. It's time more celebrities use their platform to speak out against what is wrong.
