Keep your skin clear with these FOUR quick tips!!

By: Vontoba Terry

1. Drink More Water – Really Any Healthy Liquids

Dr. Rachel Nazarian, a dermatologist from New York City has said that “without adequate water intake, skin appears duller, and wrinkles and pores more prominent.” Research suggests that drinking water improves blood flow to the skin, and drinking 8-9 cups a day can improve skin thickness and density.

2. Eat More Vegetables – Leafy, Green, Colorful

At least 2-3 cups of vegetables a day can give your skin a fresh appearance. Leafy green vegetables are rich in Vitamin E, which helps your body fight free radicals and toxins. Avocados, yams, sweet potatoes, and greens are good full of Vitamin E.  Wondering how you can fit these into your diet? Try avocado toast for breakfast, a sweet potato with lunch, and greens with dinner, and your bases are covered! (Bonus Tip: Vitamin C is an antioxidant that has anti-aging properties. Look for food with vitamin C. Also, yellow, orange, and red vegetables contain Carotenoids and/or Beta-carotene, and both of those are great for skin protection.

3. Find a Healthy Balance and Reduce Stress

Stress can cause breakouts and other health problems. Find out what gives you peace, and work it into your daily routine. Exercise, meditation, hot baths, and short naps are great ways to relax and ease stress.

 4. Use Products that are Gentle on Your Skin

Using skincare products that are gentle and made for your skin type (oily, dry, normal) will help you maintain clear and healthy skin. Products that add oil to the skin or strip your skin’s natural barriers can cause flare-ups. Alcohol-free, paraben-free, and natural products are ideal.

One of my favorite Urban Hydration products for my skin is the vanilla extract sugar scrub. I use it on my scalp before shaving, to exfoliate my beard, and to keep my skin clear. What are some of your skincare secrets and tips? Let us know in the comments!

Yours Truly,
