So, I know what you were thinking when you saw this title, “Really Daryl, face yoga?” Yes, reader! Face yoga! I am not going to lie and say that I am a full-on yogi, but I do practice yoga every now and then. I enjoy the way it makes me feel both physically and spiritually. So, when I saw that there was yoga for your face, I was intrigued. Face yoga or facial toning, is a workout that rejuvenates the skin therefore reducing puffiness, wrinkles and even bags under the eyes! But this is nothing new! Face yoga has been around for years. In fact, the new Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle has been a fan for a while now.
But, how does it work? According to face yoga expert Danielle Collins, “by working all the layers correctly it will increase blood circulation, allowing more oxygen and more nourishment to reach the cells of the skin.” This creates a beautiful and smooth complexion and a natural glow. The exercise can also tighten the skin by stimulating collagen. There are various workouts online that feature an array of silly faces and movements, but the results are evident. The idea is to start before you actually need it and practice often. The recommended time is 20 minutes.
As a recent college grad who spent plenty of nights caffeinated to the wee hours of night only to wake up for a 9:30 class, I have had my fair share of puffiness and bags. I could have definitely used some face yoga. Now that I know, I will be trying some of the moves in the mirror and trying not to laugh at the faces that I make. I hope you will try as well!
