Our journey at Urban Hydration started with the goal of helping people achieve happy, healthy lives with food-based skincare and haircare. Our founders, Psyche and Vontoba Terry, were inspired by their own experiences to create gentle, effective beauty products that work for all skin types, skin tones, and hair textures. From the very beginning, we’ve been dedicated to making beauty safe, accessible, and inclusive for everyone.

Corewell Health: A Partner in Love and Care

Corewell Health is a Michigan-based healthcare provider that shares our vision for love, inclusivity, community impact, and helping everyone they serve live healthier lives. So when their Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team noticed the lack of hair care products for their patients’ different hair types and hair textures, they initiated a hair product trial program (as mentioned in their 2023 Community Report) to help their patients feel more comfortable during their hospital stays.

“The Urban Hydration Product Trial has been a collaborative effort between our DEI team, value analysis procurement, nursing leaders from Corewell Health and our nursing DEI council,” said Phallon LoveLady, DNP, manager, Corewell Health’s Healthier Communities. “Hair care may seem like a minor thing for some, but small changes like offering diverse hair care products can have significant impacts on patient well-being,” Phallon said.

So Corewell’s DEI team decided to better serve patients with different hair types by adding our Honey Health & Repair Haircare Collection shampoo and conditioner to the haircare options that they make available to their patients.

This partnership is especially meaningful because it highlights the important connection between beauty and health, which inspired Psyche and Vontoba Terry to found Urban Hydration in 2009. And since the quality of the products you use can have an impact on your health, they decided to craft cruelty-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, and phthalate-free haircare and skincare products. Our co-founder, Psyche Terry, recently shared her thoughts on what this partnership means to us. "We have done all we can in formulations to align with care and efficaciousness. We've had Luhvies from all over the country tell us that after hospital stays they only feel comfortable using our products. When we heard that actual doctors and nurses in my home state were recommending our ingredient-focused hair care, it was like an Olympic gold medal seal of approval that our hard work had not gone unnoticed."
